I am not one for too bright of colors so was super happy to find the calmer blue and orange fabric with birds. I used the Sidelights pattern and altered it some since my large center piece was smaller. Love the simplicity of the design and the fact it took very little time to complete. <br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/12/03/2540.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/12/03/s_2540.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />My quilter always knows what to best use as a quilting design. The circles are perfect for this pulling in the idea of the sun into the beach theme. <br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/12/03/2541.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/12/03/s_2541.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone<br />Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-89798284344380764842012-06-30T18:37:00.001-05:002012-06-30T18:37:48.261-05:00Red and CreamI have never posted a picture of the red and cream swap I participated in at The Quilt Asylum a few months back. <br /><br />It isn't quilted yet because there is a mistake that I feel like I have to fix. I chose to keep the design simple and keep the blocks together. Nothing fancy but I love the look. <br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/06/30/3056.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/06/30/s_3056.jpg' border='0' width='210' height='281' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone<br />Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-81188040709147944672012-04-17T13:22:00.000-05:002012-04-17T13:22:34.925-05:00Chubby Chicks!I love Pinterest! Our church preschool asked me to make something for their annual auction. I decided I would just pull something off my shelf that I had sewn but had not decided what to do with yet. As my daughter and I were killing time, I was viewing Pinterest on my phone when I saw a pin of the quilt Chubby Chicks. I showed it to her and she decided that I needed to make that one for the auction.<br />
<br />
This was on a Wednesday and the auction items were due the next Wednesday. I remembered seeing the pattern at the LQS and so I called to have them hold it for me. I cut out the pieces on Thursday and started sewing on Friday. By Sunday evening it was finished and my quilter agreed to quilt it on Monday. So I turned it over to the quilter Monday morning and it was done by Monday afternoon. As always, she did a beautiful job quilting it and picking just the right color of thread. <br />

The pattern is Chubby Chicks by Black Mountain Quilts. I did not do the pieced border because of time but I have another one partially cut out and will probably make the full design. It was such a fun little quilt to make and the preschool was very excited about the money it brought in.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-64516545299707854682012-04-16T09:35:00.000-05:002012-04-16T09:35:28.607-05:00Dallas Quilt ShowI really need to figure out how to "blog on the go". It seems that I am never at the computer anymore since I do just about everything on my iPhone. It just so happens that today I am sick and my normal routine is replaced with sit down activities. I do miss reading blogs and keeping up to date with the latest news. Even with a blog reader app, I am not spending much time seeing what everyone is up to.<br />
<br />
Here are a few pictures of my favorites from the Dallas Quilt Show. There were so many fabulous quilts and I took loads of pictures to enjoy later and gain inspiration from. <br />
<br />
This first one was created by Sue Maze. I just fell in love with it and how striking it is with the contrasting colors.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OoAKlpkR4Zk/T4wnPfqbi3I/AAAAAAAABBY/UIno0xtiWZA/s1600/March2012%2B417.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OoAKlpkR4Zk/T4wnPfqbi3I/AAAAAAAABBY/UIno0xtiWZA/s400/March2012%2B417.jpg" /></a></div><br />
This one had to be one of the most unique quilts in the show and modern in such a way that you could use a QR reader to see a message. Emanda Johnson sent this message along with Tulips to her fiance. If you have a QR reader, just hover over the picture and in about a minute, it will show you the message. What a clever quilt this was and fun for the audience!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I3M_cncBN58/T4woR7VjF-I/AAAAAAAABBk/gPTs-rQ9zsM/s1600/March2012%2B423.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I3M_cncBN58/T4woR7VjF-I/AAAAAAAABBk/gPTs-rQ9zsM/s400/March2012%2B423.jpg" /></a></div><br />
The mini quilt auction at the show was so fun. Why am I surprised that quilter's are so creative? There were so many fabulous mini quilts to bid on. One of my favorites was a silhouette design. It is simple but so elegant. This would be such a fun way to capture a special memory that you have with a childhood friend.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kfRrau_IhfU/T4wpNqwJj5I/AAAAAAAABBw/y4l1Jm6E1mU/s1600/March2012%2B371.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kfRrau_IhfU/T4wpNqwJj5I/AAAAAAAABBw/y4l1Jm6E1mU/s400/March2012%2B371.jpg" /></a></div><br />
The best of show was breath-taking to say the least. What wonderful workmanship Linda Roy has put into this beauty. It is named Redbud Ramble. Photographing it was extremely difficult at the time because there was a large crowd around. You can look it up on the Quilter's Guild of Dallas gallery page.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O8hpnNYNvuA/T4wru-ByOKI/AAAAAAAABB8/P4JfR9P3WFw/s1600/March2012%2B389.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O8hpnNYNvuA/T4wru-ByOKI/AAAAAAAABB8/P4JfR9P3WFw/s400/March2012%2B389.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I must include our Allen Quilters' Guild entry as well. There was a committee of about 7 who planned and created this quilt. The planning was really the hardest part since it is very difficult to make decisions. I think we planned it right since we received a blue ribbon from the quilt show! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j8degUOnWj4/T4wswU-iZtI/AAAAAAAABCI/JIjWKaM9KcM/s1600/March2012%2B491.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j8degUOnWj4/T4wswU-iZtI/AAAAAAAABCI/JIjWKaM9KcM/s400/March2012%2B491.jpg" /></a></div><br />
There were so many beautiful quilts at the show and you can look the winners up on the Dallas Quilter's Guild website. Lots of inspiration!Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-56116943375297288462012-02-25T07:25:00.001-06:002012-02-25T07:25:47.244-06:00EngagedSkyler and Kelleigh got engaged over the holidays. It was not a surprise to us since Skyler had talked to us about it a couple of months ahead of time. He was actually very creative by making a scrapbook of some of their adventures and then leaving an open page for "when I proposed". The wedding won't be for awhile since they still have two years of college to finish but this gives us plenty of time to prepare. <br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/02/25/602.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/02/25/s_602.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='187' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br /><br />Kelleigh and Skyler are both very creative. We were to bring 7 dozen cookies, six for exchanging and one dozen to share while we were there. I made the candy covered oreos which are so easy to do but a bit time consuming because you have to let them harden. And since you use a mold, you can't make them all at once. I just love how they turn out and it makes me look like I know how to bake.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-osqer7OqwLM/TyFOKCrAhrI/AAAAAAAAA_A/c7rkCdnzVzE/s1600/Nov.Dec.2011%2B204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-osqer7OqwLM/TyFOKCrAhrI/AAAAAAAAA_A/c7rkCdnzVzE/s400/Nov.Dec.2011%2B204.jpg" /></a></div><br />
We make Banana Bread quite often and we actually call it Kelleigh Bread. Grandma Brill renamed it because Kelleigh loved it so much when she was little. Every time she went to Camp Grandma's she would ask for Grandma's special bread. I found a recipe that I really like because it is so simple. My husband offered to help me one day when I was having friends over so I put him in charge of the Banana Bread. He added a secret ingredient and it made all the difference in the texture and taste of the bread. Now he is in charge of making Kelleigh Bread. It turns out perfect and slices very nicely.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9KZMLqdPwOU/TyFPqv8-M3I/AAAAAAAAA_M/YJTMgtO16Gk/s1600/Jan.2012%2B146.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9KZMLqdPwOU/TyFPqv8-M3I/AAAAAAAAA_M/YJTMgtO16Gk/s400/Jan.2012%2B146.jpg" /></a></div><br />
My friend <a href="http://ellynsplace.blogspot.com/2011/12/candy-sleighs.html">Ellyn</a> and I made candy sleighs for a few friends. I decided since they were so cute that my girls were going to give them out as gifts. At first they were not too sure but then once they saw them, it was all good. They were super easy to make and using a little hot glue was the trick needed to keep them together.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bSWs2yka8tU/TyFTurb4bAI/AAAAAAAAA_Y/n50-6Pz057w/s1600/candy%2Bsleighs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bSWs2yka8tU/TyFTurb4bAI/AAAAAAAAA_Y/n50-6Pz057w/s400/candy%2Bsleighs.jpg" /></a></div> <br />

This cold and rainy day makes me want to stay home and bake. I had already planned to hit a couple of craft stores and the book store so I am sticking to my schedule.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-61053993976253442502012-01-19T10:14:00.000-06:002012-01-19T10:14:35.108-06:00Bonnie HunterEarlier this month Bonnie Hunter spoke at the Garland Quilt Guild after she taught classes at Fabric Fanatics. She is an awesome speaker with lots of energy and wit. She had such wonderful tips to share and really made me realize how spoiled we are with our stashes. There is so much we can use and we don't utilize our scraps enough. <br />
<br />
A couple of the girls in one of my small sewing groups took her classes and here is what Sarah completed. Isn't it fun?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8aJ-Gi5BkxU/Txg-ikSHIAI/AAAAAAAAA90/tw6UhCaJEwc/s1600/Jan.2012%2B037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8aJ-Gi5BkxU/Txg-ikSHIAI/AAAAAAAAA90/tw6UhCaJEwc/s400/Jan.2012%2B037.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Here is Bonnie's version. The venue was not that great...seating was tight and lighting was dark so the pictures are poor quality but you can see them on her website which is Quiltville.com.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3H0nH2FHztA/Txg_KqBu9vI/AAAAAAAAA-A/6leR4EbCYKs/s1600/Jan.2012%2B055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3H0nH2FHztA/Txg_KqBu9vI/AAAAAAAAA-A/6leR4EbCYKs/s400/Jan.2012%2B055.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Bonnie was such a huge success that I heard she is coming back next year to our same area. You can check with Fabric Fanatics about classes and there is a possibility she will be visiting other quilt stores in the area. Yeah!! Can't wait to here her speak again!!Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-23027177459168502712012-01-18T11:20:00.000-06:002012-01-18T11:20:15.323-06:00QuiltingI am so proud of Kelleigh for designing another quilt and getting it done. She is entering it in a quilt show in Oklahoma. She has joined her own guild in Stillwater, OK while she attends OSU. These ladies have been so sweet to Kelleigh and she looks forward to her meeting each month. I think she did great on her design.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X4E120zVou8/Txb7qhNub0I/AAAAAAAAA9E/28hldVnUrcc/s1600/Jan.2012%2B123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X4E120zVou8/Txb7qhNub0I/AAAAAAAAA9E/28hldVnUrcc/s400/Jan.2012%2B123.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
During the holidays I was determined to get my quilting machine set up to its largest setting. It is right in the living room but there is no other place to put it. Kelleigh was enjoying playing on it and she insisted Skyler give it a try. Well, he actually did really well and seemed to enjoy it.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iVI2PfUk61c/Txb8oK99r2I/AAAAAAAAA9Q/xXID6tbNxog/s1600/Jan.2012%2B144.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iVI2PfUk61c/Txb8oK99r2I/AAAAAAAAA9Q/xXID6tbNxog/s400/Jan.2012%2B144.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
All three girls happened to be hanging around when I was taking pictures so I tried to get a decent shot. It did not happen but this one isn't too bad. They were so silly that day that they could not stop laughing long enough for a picture. I tried!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4DC-Zz-bnYE/Txb9QlBEwbI/AAAAAAAAA9c/gtBcUByJuf4/s1600/Jan.2012%2B138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4DC-Zz-bnYE/Txb9QlBEwbI/AAAAAAAAA9c/gtBcUByJuf4/s400/Jan.2012%2B138.jpg" /></a></div><br />
After Kelleigh left to go back to school, Skyler stuck around for a bit. I was trying to lay out a drunkard's path and had decided I was just going to do circles making it look very modern. Um...it looked very plain!! Skyler jumped right in and with Taylor's help, we came up with this design. This was a Marti & Me project.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IoNqrAhNJCs/Txb-Lu8cmEI/AAAAAAAAA9o/4efJrqwbwyk/s1600/Jan.2012%2B123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="267" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IoNqrAhNJCs/Txb-Lu8cmEI/AAAAAAAAA9o/4efJrqwbwyk/s400/Jan.2012%2B123.jpg" /></a></div><br />
The lighting was not good that day so the picture doesn't show it off much. Can't wait to quilt it and finish it off.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-64345041626082920042011-10-24T13:40:00.000-05:002011-10-24T13:40:57.425-05:00Texas HomecomingHomecoming is always a big event in Texas especially with the tradition of making mums. Girls make garters for the boys and boys make mums for the girls...it is a tradition that we learned about 27 years ago when we moved here. I have no idea how it got started but it is huge here. Taylor's mum was the prettiest I have ever seen. Last year her sweet sister made her a duct tape one that was so cool and you can see it <a href="http://justsaysew.blogspot.com/2010/10/word.html">here</a>. This year her date's mother made the mum and she did an amazing job.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2_v_avqMZVE/TqWrSSewk3I/AAAAAAAAA7E/ek28ZsI9Uqc/s1600/02Oct11%2B053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2_v_avqMZVE/TqWrSSewk3I/AAAAAAAAA7E/ek28ZsI9Uqc/s400/02Oct11%2B053.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kNec99INCo8/TqWrSC5UdMI/AAAAAAAAA64/D05qJ2JKBYM/s1600/02Oct11%2B052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kNec99INCo8/TqWrSC5UdMI/AAAAAAAAA64/D05qJ2JKBYM/s400/02Oct11%2B052.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Taylor made the garter all by herself and I think she did a great job.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xVZXJXNzZ70/TqWsghlfO-I/AAAAAAAAA7Q/qUwvBugCRTM/s1600/02Oct11%2B050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xVZXJXNzZ70/TqWsghlfO-I/AAAAAAAAA7Q/qUwvBugCRTM/s400/02Oct11%2B050.jpg" /></a></div><br />
These girls worked hard on getting the garters done. I am glad someone took charge and planned out a place where they could gather to make these with friends.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5XOoVC16EhQ/TqWtUu4aMGI/AAAAAAAAA7c/Y3czLyTsRWE/s1600/02Oct11%2B018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5XOoVC16EhQ/TqWtUu4aMGI/AAAAAAAAA7c/Y3czLyTsRWE/s400/02Oct11%2B018.jpg" /></a></div><br />
We have a favorite spot in town to take pictures and I am always pleased with how they turn out. Taylor and her date managed to match without even getting together to compare colors.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cFCm5CBxF4c/TqWvZzF2vwI/AAAAAAAAA8M/0n0lQ6ihDyk/s1600/02Oct11%2B135.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="267" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cFCm5CBxF4c/TqWvZzF2vwI/AAAAAAAAA8M/0n0lQ6ihDyk/s400/02Oct11%2B135.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Time to hang up the mum and look forward to Homecoming 2012.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-23141149112876251332011-09-24T09:22:00.000-05:002011-09-24T09:22:23.161-05:00Raffle Quilt - Work in ProgressI am involved in a small Art Quilt Group that has branched off from our local quilt guild. It has been amazing to see the talent of some of these women and some day I will share some of what they have shown our group. But today I am showing you what we are working on for next year. Most guilds make a quilt to raffle each year so they can earn money for workshops and speakers. Two of the ladies in our group volunteered us to make it for next year. I have worked on the raffle quilt the last two years and decided this year, I was out. Well, it did not go that way but I have to say this is going to be a fun quilt to be a part of. We have met several times already just in the planning process and now we are making some progress.<br />
<br />
These are just the base blocks. The quilt will have pieced sashing and some applique in the borders. I am just so excited to see how the bright colors look on the black background. Here are my blocks.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QXqOgw3irxI/Tn3kQzHf30I/AAAAAAAAA5k/QXHkoE9x7IE/s1600/22Sept11%2B011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QXqOgw3irxI/Tn3kQzHf30I/AAAAAAAAA5k/QXHkoE9x7IE/s400/22Sept11%2B011.jpg" /></a></div><br />
This is my favorite. We are calling it the pomegranate flower because that is what it reminds us of.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YTpOIE7SSVA/Tn3ku4z5oSI/AAAAAAAAA5s/R1fPGM1Fg5w/s1600/22Sept11%2B012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YTpOIE7SSVA/Tn3ku4z5oSI/AAAAAAAAA5s/R1fPGM1Fg5w/s400/22Sept11%2B012.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Imagine these with some thread painting and soft embellishments.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vq0IOS2-i08/Tn3l6P84PYI/AAAAAAAAA6U/Z4hiOAajFlY/s1600/22Sept11%2B021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vq0IOS2-i08/Tn3l6P84PYI/AAAAAAAAA6U/Z4hiOAajFlY/s400/22Sept11%2B021.jpg" /></a></div><br />

This is the proposed layout which will have the pieced green sashing. The four corners will be slightly different flowers which are a little bigger because they do not have stems. I am sure we will make more changes but we had to start somewhere and we hope to have it off to the quilter sometime in November.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-doVN8iLn5l8/Tn3mXTH-qII/AAAAAAAAA6c/_OK1xdazrow/s1600/22Sept11%2B023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-doVN8iLn5l8/Tn3mXTH-qII/AAAAAAAAA6c/_OK1xdazrow/s400/22Sept11%2B023.jpg" /></a></div>Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-2427718353689477792011-09-23T13:31:00.000-05:002011-09-23T13:33:44.996-05:00Marti and Me again.I love how using the Marti and Me templates make me look like an experienced piecer. These templates are just amazing. This particular month we did a faux Carpenter's Wheel and boy did they make it easy. After cutting the pieces, I did not trust that they were going to turn out so I tried to lay it out by looking at the picture and couldn't do it. Then I had my 15 year old help and she gave up. The next day I placed all the pieces back in the order that I cut them and decided to follow the directions to see if it worked. And it did!! My daughter was even amazed out how it turned out since we couldn't even get the puzzle to fit together. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4g_0it1_L7E/TnzNIhMgKBI/AAAAAAAAA4k/HKI6sqyeV8Q/s1600/22Sept11%2B016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4g_0it1_L7E/TnzNIhMgKBI/AAAAAAAAA4k/HKI6sqyeV8Q/s400/22Sept11%2B016.jpg" /></a></div>The difference between this and a real carpenter's wheel are the squares. The original block pattern have all the squares the same size. I cannot stress how much I love that Marti has done all the work for us. <br />
<br />
This is going to be the center square of a Texas quilt. It would look spectacular using the recent block patterns that were given out with the Quilt Across Texas tour.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_st-gaNWbXM/TnzOJiUG2fI/AAAAAAAAA4s/DKB9PEOFNXw/s1600/22Sept11%2B004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_st-gaNWbXM/TnzOJiUG2fI/AAAAAAAAA4s/DKB9PEOFNXw/s400/22Sept11%2B004.jpg" /></a></div><br />

It is so fun to go and see what everyone has come up with each month. One pattern can look so different just by the colors you use.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-22866513015715188572011-09-09T14:19:00.001-05:002011-09-23T13:34:29.745-05:00The Katy TrailI am finally getting around to organizing pictures and wanted to share some of mine from our summer bike adventure. It was probably the most rewarding vacation I have ever had. I have been to lots of places including Europe and Hawaii but riding my bike along The Katy Trail was probably my favorite. I love a physical challenge and there is nothing that makes you appreciate where you live better than to be completely without the comforts of your daily life. We slept in hotels but that was because I did not want to haul all my bedding around. It was hot and a tough terrain and our fuel was warm water and Cliff bars. We did usually find a place to eat dinner that was your typical small town bar filled with smoke. We all had our Ipods which besides my husband and my friend, Mary, got me through some really tough spots. I found this shirt for Mary after the trip and knew I had to get it for her. We rode most of the last day by ourselves and it was completely uphill. We now know to start from Sedalia, MO and head to Dutzow, MO.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OIRchJkD-uY/TmpPwBSh89I/AAAAAAAAAyI/BHyRrF2ReMw/s1600/12Aug2011%2B117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OIRchJkD-uY/TmpPwBSh89I/AAAAAAAAAyI/BHyRrF2ReMw/s400/12Aug2011%2B117.jpg" /></a></div><br />
We tried to choose historic places to stay and the first hotel was Hotel Bothwell in Sedalia, MO. It was really beautiful and they tried to keep everything in its original state. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nbq7V6H3ARQ/TmpSmh_nDZI/AAAAAAAAAyg/bph5lckGZ9w/s1600/27July2011%2B010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nbq7V6H3ARQ/TmpSmh_nDZI/AAAAAAAAAyg/bph5lckGZ9w/s400/27July2011%2B010.jpg" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gGxiTtFnnZo/TmpSmTxKm8I/AAAAAAAAAyY/ETaN4LRbvA4/s1600/27July2011%2B012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gGxiTtFnnZo/TmpSmTxKm8I/AAAAAAAAAyY/ETaN4LRbvA4/s400/27July2011%2B012.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I love the look of old buildings. It is hard to believe that these were once thriving towns with lots to offer.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CemqILGp6is/TmpVE58gUDI/AAAAAAAAAy4/SELojiPjdU8/s1600/27July2011%2B027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CemqILGp6is/TmpVE58gUDI/AAAAAAAAAy4/SELojiPjdU8/s400/27July2011%2B027.jpg" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tr2boYpmtew/TmpVEq21iYI/AAAAAAAAAyw/--0bsoPRQdA/s1600/27July2011%2B026.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tr2boYpmtew/TmpVEq21iYI/AAAAAAAAAyw/--0bsoPRQdA/s400/27July2011%2B026.jpg" /></a></div><br />
These are our loaded bikes. I managed to take a couple of jackets, a book and some sewing along.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NfNQ3MpO-PI/TmpVfpAZ8bI/AAAAAAAAAzA/kJhdu3v5hF4/s1600/27July2011%2B028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NfNQ3MpO-PI/TmpVfpAZ8bI/AAAAAAAAAzA/kJhdu3v5hF4/s400/27July2011%2B028.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Here is my husband conducting business as we wait for our train that was delayed two hours. We got a really late start our first day which made it very challenging.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zgy2D_6FCYA/TmpV6xk5QbI/AAAAAAAAAzI/8atxUdhH8Pc/s1600/27July2011%2B033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zgy2D_6FCYA/TmpV6xk5QbI/AAAAAAAAAzI/8atxUdhH8Pc/s400/27July2011%2B033.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Finally, our train arrives. The train wasn't even stopped 5 minutes and the conductors do not help you with your bikes. Charlie ended up leaving a bag behind not realizing the train would take off so quickly. He was intending to hop back off to get it but they are apparently on some schedule even though they were late to pick us up. It was a pleasant ride even though we did pick up some newly released prisoners in Jefferson City.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Nq-L__qdT0/TmpW8c6Iy5I/AAAAAAAAAzY/8Ifx5bdWuTM/s1600/27July2011%2B053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4Nq-L__qdT0/TmpW8c6Iy5I/AAAAAAAAAzY/8Ifx5bdWuTM/s400/27July2011%2B053.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iUpniLqiwns/TmpW8AJEXiI/AAAAAAAAAzQ/GzZOeF8oTZs/s1600/27July2011%2B038.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iUpniLqiwns/TmpW8AJEXiI/AAAAAAAAAzQ/GzZOeF8oTZs/s400/27July2011%2B038.jpg" /></a></div><br />
After reading other bikers experiences with The Katy Trail, it was advised that we not ride across the bridge from Washington to Dutzow. That was great advice! It was two lanes and no shoulder room at all. I had arranged for the bike store owner to give us a ride across and he was able to replace the things that were left behind in Sedalia.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qNS4MeerJGg/TmpYfcn9UJI/AAAAAAAAAzo/yl8bJhsryHg/s1600/27July2011%2B058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qNS4MeerJGg/TmpYfcn9UJI/AAAAAAAAAzo/yl8bJhsryHg/s400/27July2011%2B058.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kRk3UiiUNcA/TmpYfDsJtAI/AAAAAAAAAzg/oAaYg20aGJ4/s1600/27July2011%2B054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kRk3UiiUNcA/TmpYfDsJtAI/AAAAAAAAAzg/oAaYg20aGJ4/s400/27July2011%2B054.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Lunch was at 4:30 on our first day on the trail due to the train being late and the deli we had planned on eating at was closed. You can do that when you are in a small town...just put a sign on the door. We found a little bar that actually had wonderful cold water.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ac48luqvTFQ/TmpZLC4BIUI/AAAAAAAAAzw/bVIklWz2Nq0/s1600/27July2011%2B067.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ac48luqvTFQ/TmpZLC4BIUI/AAAAAAAAAzw/bVIklWz2Nq0/s400/27July2011%2B067.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Our first night on the trail we stayed at The Doll House Bed & Breakfast. It was outstanding! The owner was super sweet and breakfast was delicious.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2llwK9RscTc/TmpZrdW8d6I/AAAAAAAAAz4/zZMvip19nIs/s1600/27July2011%2B102.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2llwK9RscTc/TmpZrdW8d6I/AAAAAAAAAz4/zZMvip19nIs/s400/27July2011%2B102.jpg" /></a></div><br />

It was neat to be riding along and all of a sudden you see the State Capitol of Missouri. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yz5duemYVWc/TmpbFLFK4OI/AAAAAAAAA0g/T60T0kMiG4Y/s1600/27July2011%2B119.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yz5duemYVWc/TmpbFLFK4OI/AAAAAAAAA0g/T60T0kMiG4Y/s400/27July2011%2B119.jpg" /></a></div><br />
...or deer running through the fields.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zNMcvD5kgj4/TmpbXhv6aqI/AAAAAAAAA0o/D9lxRxIsr8M/s1600/27July2011%2B127.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zNMcvD5kgj4/TmpbXhv6aqI/AAAAAAAAA0o/D9lxRxIsr8M/s400/27July2011%2B127.jpg" /></a></div><br />
We stayed the next night at The Globe Hotel which had a lot of history to go along with it. The owner had most everything moved upstairs because they were expecting the river to flood. She had showed us the flood lines from previous years that were half way up the walls.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bitoVFEsg8M/TmpeARLHPZI/AAAAAAAAA0w/-p_FPLGlZXc/s1600/27July2011%2B161.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bitoVFEsg8M/TmpeARLHPZI/AAAAAAAAA0w/-p_FPLGlZXc/s400/27July2011%2B161.jpg" /></a></div><br />
She had a lot of antique quilts and linens which I loved inspecting.<br />

There were very few buildings in Hartsburg where we stayed but this one was so ornate.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_PNmBDTBmhM/Tmpfxe1Iy0I/AAAAAAAAA1Y/VtTSJNtX7rg/s1600/27July2011%2B151.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_PNmBDTBmhM/Tmpfxe1Iy0I/AAAAAAAAA1Y/VtTSJNtX7rg/s400/27July2011%2B151.jpg" /></a></div><br />

There were so many neat picture opportunities along the trail. We did not stop for all of them or we would have never made it to our destination. Our last day was completely uphill. I have never been so sore in my life but I have never had such a sense of accomplishment either. I just loved our trip and cannot wait to try some more Rails to Trails adventures.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-73774871389605035332011-08-21T17:51:00.000-05:002011-09-13T06:40:28.843-05:00The Quilt Asylum - Doll Quilt SwapOur last swap at The Quilt Asylum was earlier this month. We had to make a "doll" (mini)quilt and it had to have circles in it somehow. Whether that would be in the fabric, design, or shape. I am always impressed with what others come up with. <br />
<br />
I made three different ones before I decided on mine. I really decided it was best to keep it simple so my circles were in the shape of the sun, coconuts, and in the design of the fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pxHCDrcvWWs/TlGGNqFy5aI/AAAAAAAAAwk/YTa1EKXbXkk/s1600/12Aug2011%2B194.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pxHCDrcvWWs/TlGGNqFy5aI/AAAAAAAAAwk/YTa1EKXbXkk/s400/12Aug2011%2B194.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Kathleen did an amazing job with lots of beading. What beautiful colors, too!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZ83MZEheXM/TlGGqa8dugI/AAAAAAAAAws/UJRWLA6bqII/s1600/12Aug2011%2B195.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NZ83MZEheXM/TlGGqa8dugI/AAAAAAAAAws/UJRWLA6bqII/s400/12Aug2011%2B195.jpg" /></a></div><br />
LaDonna was inspired by the current BOM by Quilt Soup.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OveZJ1nF61A/TlGHKxyAOGI/AAAAAAAAAw0/JA2R8A9J9FE/s1600/12Aug2011%2B196.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OveZJ1nF61A/TlGHKxyAOGI/AAAAAAAAAw0/JA2R8A9J9FE/s400/12Aug2011%2B196.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I love that Juanita used the circles off the edges of fabric. What a fun modern doll quilt.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MafkSAWIQIk/TlGHpdHHoCI/AAAAAAAAAw8/nGPpXhuuv-M/s1600/12Aug2011%2B199.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MafkSAWIQIk/TlGHpdHHoCI/AAAAAAAAAw8/nGPpXhuuv-M/s400/12Aug2011%2B199.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Yo-Yo's definitely fit the circle criteria. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2DoYUf3-Pio/TlGIA0Qvg2I/AAAAAAAAAxE/uiU9OkmjT0g/s1600/12Aug2011%2B200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2DoYUf3-Pio/TlGIA0Qvg2I/AAAAAAAAAxE/uiU9OkmjT0g/s400/12Aug2011%2B200.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Sherry made two using fabric with circles.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9qCBHz45Hkk/TlGInLHEbwI/AAAAAAAAAxU/vMpToWUISTE/s1600/12Aug2011%2B203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9qCBHz45Hkk/TlGInLHEbwI/AAAAAAAAAxU/vMpToWUISTE/s400/12Aug2011%2B203.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Ellyn used this beautiful fabric line...of course, anything with gray is wonderful to me.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xDkFwlmZRqA/TlGI-3xTURI/AAAAAAAAAxc/mZNa_AYuRkk/s1600/12Aug2011%2B205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xDkFwlmZRqA/TlGI-3xTURI/AAAAAAAAAxc/mZNa_AYuRkk/s400/12Aug2011%2B205.jpg" /></a></div><br />
This one is so cute! I think it has a bit of Australian flare to it.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rvCqdmjp21M/TlGJUwVIJYI/AAAAAAAAAxk/zwCYuXkjYHw/s1600/12Aug2011%2B206.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rvCqdmjp21M/TlGJUwVIJYI/AAAAAAAAAxk/zwCYuXkjYHw/s400/12Aug2011%2B206.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Sarah did a bull's eye type quilt that I really want to make some day.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VyRA3JXMpnM/TlGJ714luvI/AAAAAAAAAxs/IUzMYWaOD2w/s1600/12Aug2011%2B208.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VyRA3JXMpnM/TlGJ714luvI/AAAAAAAAAxs/IUzMYWaOD2w/s400/12Aug2011%2B208.jpg" /></a></div>Our next swap is a tote bag and then I think we are doing Christmas ornaments. It really is a great way to keep motivated to sew. It also makes you think about what others would like. <br />

She heads back to college this week and we still did not get to quilt together this summer. We talked about some designs and she showed me some things she did in EQ7 but nothing got started. We love a lot of the same things and had big plans but there is always next break.<br />
<br />
The show had a few long arm quilting machines set up to play with and jokingly we told Kelleigh to drive and we were so impressed with what she did. Her first attempt she wrote her name backwards starting with the "h" at the far right. Then the sales lady said that was impressive but if she could write her name like it would look in a mirror then she would be really impressed. She did and the clerk said that was the first time anyone had done that.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iIVjD_JGVfc/Tksuj1lu-rI/AAAAAAAAAwE/Nvy-yOBT3e4/s1600/14Aug2011%2B077.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iIVjD_JGVfc/Tksuj1lu-rI/AAAAAAAAAwE/Nvy-yOBT3e4/s400/14Aug2011%2B077.jpg" /></a></div><br />
That was fun and we went on until another salesman invited us to play. We again told Kelleigh to take the handles and she surprised us with this...a beautiful flower and leaf.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XjGGkK-QY2Q/TksvxfTlqAI/AAAAAAAAAwU/gg7ox_4xZpM/s1600/14Aug2011%2B081.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XjGGkK-QY2Q/TksvxfTlqAI/AAAAAAAAAwU/gg7ox_4xZpM/s400/14Aug2011%2B081.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CeJcsRUGqSg/TksvxMAwwBI/AAAAAAAAAwM/V6WEDzZ7sJs/s1600/14Aug2011%2B082.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CeJcsRUGqSg/TksvxMAwwBI/AAAAAAAAAwM/V6WEDzZ7sJs/s400/14Aug2011%2B082.jpg" /></a></div><br />
It began to be funny that she had only touched a long arm twice and came up with some decent results. Well, the last machine is the one she liked best. It took us a little bit to figure out what she was designing but then the light bulb went off and I wish I had a picture of the sales clerk's mouth. He was speechless and his jaw was hanging open. He couldn't believe she had only had three minutes experience. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v5Bd5fnVROY/TksxOr2IC_I/AAAAAAAAAwc/MLyduVp7jbA/s1600/14Aug2011%2B090.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v5Bd5fnVROY/TksxOr2IC_I/AAAAAAAAAwc/MLyduVp7jbA/s400/14Aug2011%2B090.jpg" /></a></div>I guess when you are a true artist, you can do anything. We haven't convinced her dad that she needs this $10,000 machine but it was fun and she can't wait to play again.<br />

It is my first block swap and was quite a challenge. My first set of blocks would not come out to the 9 1/2" size that was required. After I had cut all the pieces and started sewing, I decided I should measure these blocks. Well, they ended up being put aside after I tried to rip some apart and work them into the proper size. That was way too time consuming. <br />
<br />
I had started my Farmer's Wife blocks using the Marti Michell templates and decided this is exactly what I needed to make my blocks come out to the proper size. I bought the appropriate templates and started out to make my 84 blocks. After testing the size and finding the templates did indeed make perfect 9 1/2" blocks, I am now hooked on these templates.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8biHPGk8IZY/TkfHJMEXM5I/AAAAAAAAAvk/DQpMcIDlwGo/s1600/12Aug2011%2B003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8biHPGk8IZY/TkfHJMEXM5I/AAAAAAAAAvk/DQpMcIDlwGo/s400/12Aug2011%2B003.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jniZ0AAeTck/TkfHI8Nqn4I/AAAAAAAAAvc/x7zWe7M1FeA/s1600/12Aug2011%2B002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jniZ0AAeTck/TkfHI8Nqn4I/AAAAAAAAAvc/x7zWe7M1FeA/s400/12Aug2011%2B002.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Now the drama is what to do with these blocks. I don't know that I want to just slap them together, although, I really do want a traditional amish looking quilt someday. My thoughts are to cut them up and re-sew them together. Kelleigh has drawn up a couple of ideas for me and so I may play around with those designs and then decide. Bonnie had cut a couple of blocks up and sewed it in this manner.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OH_DvSZ_fsA/TkfFVpYzM4I/AAAAAAAAAu8/CZmp4gxEojY/s1600/12Aug2011%2B178.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OH_DvSZ_fsA/TkfFVpYzM4I/AAAAAAAAAu8/CZmp4gxEojY/s400/12Aug2011%2B178.jpg" /></a></div><br />
It was fun laying out the churn dash blocks and organizing them by colors. Kelleigh enjoyed putting them in some sort of order.<br />

It has been a few months due to school activities and vacations. What a fun meeting! We had a potluck dinner, show and tell, and applique demonstrations to include hand, raw edge, and reverse techniques. The demonstrators did a great job and I learned some new things and am anxious to start a new quilt or two. I promised a couple of ladies that I would post pictures of the show and tell. The pictures are not the best but it is hard to get anyone to stand still long enough to get a good shot with my camera. Hope you enjoy the fun stuff that everyone shared.<br />
<br />
This was evidently some challenge fabric that was passed out in a previous month. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rEG5E-fGD9o/TkXcpxbXSKI/AAAAAAAAAqE/JqGuR9LvHmw/s1600/12Aug2011%2B212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rEG5E-fGD9o/TkXcpxbXSKI/AAAAAAAAAqE/JqGuR9LvHmw/s400/12Aug2011%2B212.jpg" /></a></div><br />
This is beautiful fabric that a member created using "ice dyeing". It turned out so bright. You can find the process on the internet.<br />

I did not catch the name of this quilt but it looks like a fun one to make.<br />

Juanita brought an antique quilt she was able to find. Also, she took a workshop from Lola Jenkins and showed us what she was able to create in a short amount of time. I recently watched Lola on The Quilt Show and she had so much to share and really encourages everyone to be brave and just create.<br />

Gina shared a quilt top she was able to finish with the help of some friends. Quilters make the best kind of friends. She also found a good buy on a quilt top from The Quilt Asylum.<br />

These mini's are so cute and the pieces were tiny. I found a magazine recently that was published in 1994 and they referred to a mini quilt as a "doll" quilt. I thought that was a new term! I was so surprised to see it in an issue dating that far back.<br />

Georgeann brought in a block she made for a great-aunt (?) who is celebrating a very special birthday. They will collect the blocks from family members and make a quilt for her. I have so many pictures to post from the summer. We have enjoyed some great vacation time so I will be back tracking a bit and posting some of those. Also, have enjoyed lots of quilting events and want to blog about those as well.<br />

I have had the book for quite some time and knew someday I wanted to make this quilt. Lucky for me, it has become the latest rage and now I have lots of friends joining in on the adventure. The book has some great letters from the 20's of women who commented on whether they would want their daughter to marry a farmer. It is quite fascinating to read. The book does not give you exact instructions for the blocks but there are several groups out there helping with directions. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-18jvGHTDHnE/TiQvPpOTnMI/AAAAAAAAAo8/_wBiPAByAQ0/s1600/TheFarmer%2527s%2BWife%2BBook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="394" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-18jvGHTDHnE/TiQvPpOTnMI/AAAAAAAAAo8/_wBiPAByAQ0/s400/TheFarmer%2527s%2BWife%2BBook.jpg" /></a></div>Here is a picture of the finished quilt. There are 111 blocks in the book and some quilters have chosen to do a smaller version. I am not making any decisions at this point as to the size of my finished quilt.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fMg_OESNEoU/TiQxAJOE4-I/AAAAAAAAApE/rfW-HMw06UY/s1600/Farmers-Wife-241x300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="241" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fMg_OESNEoU/TiQxAJOE4-I/AAAAAAAAApE/rfW-HMw06UY/s400/Farmers-Wife-241x300.jpg" /></a></div>We saw lots of farms on our trip through Michigan and Canada. I couldn't help but think about the lives of the women who live on the farms.<br />

Yet, another thing I have been wanting to do, perfecting my piecing. I am happy with what I do because I am not a perfectionist but I never want to give anything away because I don't like people to see my corners not matched up. This was a perfect plan...The Farmer's Wife and Marti Michell templates. I am happy with the first blocks that I did but feel even more confident that the next ones will be better.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZY86-KJ5AcI/TiQ4JyZtEBI/AAAAAAAAAp0/P5zlygZVJEQ/s1600/062111%2B117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZY86-KJ5AcI/TiQ4JyZtEBI/AAAAAAAAAp0/P5zlygZVJEQ/s400/062111%2B117.jpg" /></a></div><br />

One great thing about this quilt...it is all coming from my stash!! The Marti Michell templates do cost money but are worth their price because you get perfect piecing every time. I have another blog post to write proving the worth of these templates. They are saving me from pulling out my hair right now on a swap I have committed to participate in. I love gadgets that make my life easier!Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-42562084434233830842011-07-02T16:24:00.000-05:002011-08-14T08:07:58.521-05:00Market Review at The Quilt AsylumMarket Review at The Quilt Asylum happens two times a year just 6 weeks after the quilt market. It is like Christmas...waiting to see the new trends and up and coming designers. These gals work so hard to get quilts and other items finished for us to see. It is such a fun time and there are always wonderful treats. Hope you enjoy the few pictures I have to share. <br />

It is fun to have a challenge and a deadline that makes you actually get something done. I used Park Central fabric by Kate Spain mainly because I had some scraps of it left from my Sudoku quilt. I love the colors of this line, although, it does not match anything in my house. That's okay since I am swapping it anyway.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GVrw8ji_9yc/TgNNA4BTcVI/AAAAAAAAAjE/htQ-1Ttremk/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GVrw8ji_9yc/TgNNA4BTcVI/AAAAAAAAAjE/htQ-1Ttremk/s400/04June2011Mom%2B057.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GkfzHhlkeA8/TgNNAinNvUI/AAAAAAAAAi8/MaoT4VdjtvA/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GkfzHhlkeA8/TgNNAinNvUI/AAAAAAAAAi8/MaoT4VdjtvA/s400/04June2011Mom%2B050.jpg" /></a></div><br />
LaDonna combined a couple of patterns to make hers. The theme for the swap was "Summer" and this definitely represents summer.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mmo9-LVHobI/TgNNzM6tSiI/AAAAAAAAAjM/BDutIkSWeWw/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mmo9-LVHobI/TgNNzM6tSiI/AAAAAAAAAjM/BDutIkSWeWw/s400/04June2011Mom%2B059.jpg" /></a></div><br />
These colors are so popular right now and Ellyn put them into play with her tablerunner. Super cute!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WmRAQhYRpHw/TgNOSCk0tFI/AAAAAAAAAjU/B0pFZ5kApJY/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B060.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WmRAQhYRpHw/TgNOSCk0tFI/AAAAAAAAAjU/B0pFZ5kApJY/s400/04June2011Mom%2B060.jpg" /></a></div><br />
This one was so fun because it is two-sided. Way to be smart and get double the use out of the runner.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IBw5I4xdLnQ/TgNOz5qvkOI/AAAAAAAAAjk/pSzwJbysg4M/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IBw5I4xdLnQ/TgNOz5qvkOI/AAAAAAAAAjk/pSzwJbysg4M/s400/04June2011Mom%2B063.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Kathleen had fun using a Gwen Marston approach to her project. I think it would go nicely with Fiesta Ware.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w9kBPMLYB1A/TgNPOr9gf3I/AAAAAAAAAjs/xYXAaybmOl8/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B065.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w9kBPMLYB1A/TgNPOr9gf3I/AAAAAAAAAjs/xYXAaybmOl8/s400/04June2011Mom%2B065.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Sherry is always ambitious and does multiple items to swap. One pattern was by Pieced Tree and the other is the one using border fabric.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gMIZi5Vo3s4/TgNP0bD4clI/AAAAAAAAAj8/0yYi9pFU7fM/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B067.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gMIZi5Vo3s4/TgNP0bD4clI/AAAAAAAAAj8/0yYi9pFU7fM/s400/04June2011Mom%2B067.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Our next swap is in August and it is a Doll Quilt and has to have a circle of some sort involved. There are lots of ways to interpret that rule.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-91287221233711530532011-06-04T22:39:00.000-05:002011-08-14T08:11:48.441-05:00Fresh Fabric TreatsJenny Garland and Angela Yosten were at The Quilt Asylum today autographing the new Moda Bake Shop book.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8NHXbbV4La8/Ter5dlE16_I/AAAAAAAAAiI/JFsY6oDXwmw/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8NHXbbV4La8/Ter5dlE16_I/AAAAAAAAAiI/JFsY6oDXwmw/s400/04June2011Mom%2B156.jpg" /></a></div><br />

What an extra special treat to get my book autographed. This was such a fun day at The Quilt Asylum with Bring and Brag, Block Swap Reveal, and the autographing of a newly released book.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-8230776499218431872011-06-04T22:17:00.000-05:002011-08-14T08:08:15.705-05:00Pink and Brown SwapBonnie at The Quilt Asylum has started a block swap. Her first one was to choose a 6" block and make it using pinks and browns. The number you made depended on how many people were in the swap. They ended up making over 100 but in the end it was worth it. I did not participate in the swap but I went to the revealing because I wanted to hear about the next swap. Oh my!!!... these quilts were beautiful!!! It was so fun to hear how each of them came up with their final designs. I will just post pictures for you to enjoy. I did sign up for the next one and it is a 9" churn dash using black as the background and solids for the design giving it an Amish feel.<br />

A few times I have gone even though I have nothing to contribute. The last few weeks have been quite a blur for me but the inspiration I get from these ladies is exactly what I need to get back in the sewing room.<br />
<br />
Bettepat always gives a challenge and last month was to make this little bird and a coaster. Lorna was the only one who made the bird so she got 5 extra tickets for the door prize bucket. It was very cute but sounds like it was way too small to make it easy to work with.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1zUpADNpnt8/Termm7KMapI/AAAAAAAAAgI/2NWd4u8DUPo/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B075.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1zUpADNpnt8/Termm7KMapI/AAAAAAAAAgI/2NWd4u8DUPo/s400/04June2011Mom%2B075.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Suzanne made this adorable Dr. Seuss quilt using the Pieced Tree pattern Catchanap. The fabric was perfect for this pattern!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ddTs6mQDEmQ/TernHlTNpNI/AAAAAAAAAgQ/KVfI-WpD1PI/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B076.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ddTs6mQDEmQ/TernHlTNpNI/AAAAAAAAAgQ/KVfI-WpD1PI/s400/04June2011Mom%2B076.jpg" /></a></div><br />
She also made this pillow out of a decorated tea towel. What a great idea!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6kLpJcBAuf8/Ternrns70GI/AAAAAAAAAgY/3gZ6NVJvUfY/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6kLpJcBAuf8/Ternrns70GI/AAAAAAAAAgY/3gZ6NVJvUfY/s400/04June2011Mom%2B123.jpg" /></a></div><br />
TQA is hosting a table runner swap next week and LaDonna brought hers in to share. It is the Little Quilt Company Calendar Table Runners pattern with a little of her own touch. She changed the birds out for ants. What a fun table runner.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-snBPQ8pZW24/TeroYCBjwZI/AAAAAAAAAgg/bIvyfDXobHA/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B080.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-snBPQ8pZW24/TeroYCBjwZI/AAAAAAAAAgg/bIvyfDXobHA/s400/04June2011Mom%2B080.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Ellyn made a dress and some hair clips to share. You can see more on her blog about those. She is even being published in a magazine this month. How fun. Check out her <a href="http://ellynsplace.blogspot.com">blog.</a><br />
<br />
Bonnie brought in a bag she had done along with wearing a skirt she had made. Too cute! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bP5e62Z056c/Terr2q_TfAI/AAAAAAAAAgo/OIXDSSNyS5s/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B084.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bP5e62Z056c/Terr2q_TfAI/AAAAAAAAAgo/OIXDSSNyS5s/s400/04June2011Mom%2B084.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
She also shared a quilt she started at a recent workshop taught by Gwen Marston. It was definitely an eye opening experience for Bonnie helping her to work out of her comfort zone. I love the design of this quilt.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6su1wJ529rg/TersRxrtcpI/AAAAAAAAAgw/JkqVHs3aeqA/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B086.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6su1wJ529rg/TersRxrtcpI/AAAAAAAAAgw/JkqVHs3aeqA/s400/04June2011Mom%2B086.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Bettepat made an incredible quilt out of an old quilt top. The top could not be used whole because of the condition so she cut it up and made it look so modern.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5tfDMJS5Hjg/Tert0ou-z2I/AAAAAAAAAg4/QjcVoXjRDCQ/s1600/04June2011Mom%2B109.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5tfDMJS5Hjg/Tert0ou-z2I/AAAAAAAAAg4/QjcVoXjRDCQ/s400/04June2011Mom%2B109.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
There were a couple of other quilts shown but I am going to include those in the next post which is about the Brown and Pink exchange.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-34072653641886400292011-06-01T07:46:00.000-05:002011-08-14T08:08:46.028-05:00Mama's New JobOur local quilt guild has a program called Storybook Quilts in which we make small quilts to go along with children's books that reference quilts. I chose the book The Berenstain Bears and Mama's New Job. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Tf0ODZcHEJo/TeYzJkArSnI/AAAAAAAAAfk/-dm7-36qcoM/s1600/20May2011MOM%2B116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Tf0ODZcHEJo/TeYzJkArSnI/AAAAAAAAAfk/-dm7-36qcoM/s400/20May2011MOM%2B116.jpg" /></a></div>Mama Bear decides to start a quilting business and she dreams up this design to make.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kg5x9n3anLY/TeYzl-_Nc9I/AAAAAAAAAfs/m9vhlkrBYig/s1600/20May2011MOM%2B113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kg5x9n3anLY/TeYzl-_Nc9I/AAAAAAAAAfs/m9vhlkrBYig/s400/20May2011MOM%2B113.jpg" /></a></div><br />

The Allen Quilters' Guild has made several quilts to share and teacher's can check them out through their school library. The kids love being able to pass the quilt around while their teacher reads the book to them.Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2869432910491472038.post-32266883156873442782011-05-20T10:53:00.001-05:002011-09-13T08:38:06.519-05:00Cimarron Valley Quilters Sew InIn April my friend, Carol, and I went to Stillwater, OK to join up with the Cimarron Valley Quilters' Guild to celebrate their 25 years as a guild. They held a 25 hour sew-a-thon at a local church. It just so happens that after we planned the trip, Carol's brother-in-law was assigned to be the new pastor at the church. Well, once the ladies saw Carol's last name, that was the topic of the retreat. My daughter, Kelleigh, is a freshman at OSU and she joined the guild so she could be connected with other quilters. These ladies have been so kind to her and welcoming her into the guild. What an outstanding guild for such a small town and we will definitely be joining up with them again.<br />
<br />
I got a few things pieced while I was there. One was a Sudoku quilt top. It came in a kit and you had to finish the puzzle to find out where to properly place the pieces. The fabric line is Central Park by Kate Spain and the sashing is Stone by Kona. Stone is a great color that goes with so many of the new modern lines. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o2stc72Dbaw/TdaD4ontfTI/AAAAAAAAAeM/36mdntlwFLw/s1600/06May2011MOM%2B066.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o2stc72Dbaw/TdaD4ontfTI/AAAAAAAAAeM/36mdntlwFLw/s400/06May2011MOM%2B066.jpg" /></a></div><br />

I participated in a swap from Happiness is Quilting where we made 9 witches feet to switch out. I finally got them all into a quilt top and the border is a piano key style. It was so fun to swap and I love how they all turned out. When you join a swap you "get what you get" which may not always be up to your standards. This one was definitely a great swap. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AnsOL7rTOsw/TdaFww7j8ZI/AAAAAAAAAec/-zmrwOhnx9M/s1600/06May2011MOM%2B033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AnsOL7rTOsw/TdaFww7j8ZI/AAAAAAAAAec/-zmrwOhnx9M/s400/06May2011MOM%2B033.jpg" /></a></div><br />

The ladies at the retreat were working on so many wonderful quilts. The gray, black and red one is my favorite! It is a row quilt and they do it like a swap where one person makes the same row several times and then switches rows with the others in the swap. They did this more than once so I will show you different colorways.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jsytL8-EIZQ/TdaIQTT8YjI/AAAAAAAAAe0/WzO9vv0mN1Q/s1600/06May2011MOM%2B023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jsytL8-EIZQ/TdaIQTT8YjI/AAAAAAAAAe0/WzO9vv0mN1Q/s400/06May2011MOM%2B023.jpg" /></a></div><br />

CVQG makes several raffle quilts each year to raise money for their guild. One that they were doing was an English Paper Pieced Grandmother's Flower Garden. They each make a certain number of flowers and then piece it all together. It was just beautiful!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-353482UmAFs/TdaJMoH-d9I/AAAAAAAAAfE/NjFsjtDNHLY/s1600/06May2011MOM%2B059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-353482UmAFs/TdaJMoH-d9I/AAAAAAAAAfE/NjFsjtDNHLY/s400/06May2011MOM%2B059.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Kelleigh worked on an art project for school making flowers. She also made and owl and worked on a lap quilt. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nk7jAhlPgfE/TdaJ8qw0n_I/AAAAAAAAAfU/DrfnlPphC0M/s1600/06May2011MOM%2B069.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nk7jAhlPgfE/TdaJ8qw0n_I/AAAAAAAAAfU/DrfnlPphC0M/s400/06May2011MOM%2B069.jpg" /></a></div><br />

Carol was busy talking and making connections with the church members. I don't know how much she got done. She did quilt a Storybook Quilt for a friend and I will post that later. She also worked on a Seminole pieced towel which she is a pro at doing. They always turn out so beautiful. The guild provided a kit to make this adorable pin cushion which Carol did get done. It is a free pattern off of The Pattern Basket website.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dcKKcy_8Nns/TdaLFI1OuDI/AAAAAAAAAfc/XmH1rAWtn7A/s1600/06May2011MOM%2B036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dcKKcy_8Nns/TdaLFI1OuDI/AAAAAAAAAfc/XmH1rAWtn7A/s400/06May2011MOM%2B036.jpg" /></a></div><br />
On our way to Stillwater, we visited four quilt stores and there is a really nice one right there in town called The Quilting Post. I look forward to visiting Oklahoma again!Sewjoehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16790860427088600547noreply@blogger.com2
